The complete workflow of Thorsten Overgaard, made easy with pre-flight checklists and step-by-step instructions on how to set up and use a professional photo editing software like Capture One Pro.
Photographer Thorsten Overgaard first released the Lightroom Survival Kit in 2009 and have honed it with new and fresh updates. This Version 11 is the most radical updated and renewed version ever, four years in the making.

"Thorsten's methodology is perhaps not what hardware-, software- and cloud-companies want us to do, but as a former IT engineer I can only acknowledge his views about preserving our digital heritage. This workflow explained is for me the best I have ever seen".
The Leica M11 comes with a camera profile integrated that Capture One and Adobe Lightroom uses, and then usually after a little while, Adobe creates an Adobe RAW profile that has their look and some of the features that can be nice to have when opening Leica M11 files in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and any other Adobe software.
The same goes for Capture One that also created their profile for the Leica M11, called Leica M11 ProStandard. which was implemented from the day the Leica M11 was released. Adobe made a LEICA M11 profile that most thought was a temporary profile, but then in April 2022 Adobe upadted their list of supported cameras, and it turned out this profile is the final one (they just hadn't updated their list of supported cameras). See later articles on this, but fundamentally the LEICA M11 profile result in very saturated images, whereas the Adobe Standard is the one I would prefer.
The EVF 020 that was made for Leica M10 and Leiac TL2 have a geotagging in it, whihc also means that without the EVF mounted, those cameras does not geotag. This changed with the Leica Fotos software, which now uses the smartphone for geotagging and transfers it via blutooth to the Leica M11. This means that a GPS unit is not necessary in the EVF, why the Visoflex 2 made for the Leica M11 does not have that. It of couse also means that you don't need to attach an EVF to the Leica M10 and Leica SL2 in order to have geotagging.
Figuring out the Leica M model numbers can be confusing. The first digital Leica M was the Leica M8, then a slightly updated version Leica M8.2, and then the first full-frame Leica M9. The next one should then have been Leica M10, but instead Leica decided to change to call them all Leica M with an added "type 240".
As of January 28, 2022 the first Leica M11 firmware update (46MB file size)was available, simply updating a bug with the FN (Function) button as some cameras experienced a problem with the FN button being nonresponsive.
Firmware 1.3.0.0: The March 29, 2022 firmware update 1.3.0.0 (52MB file size) featured perspective control (straightening tilted lines in-camera), a new light metering method with highlight-based metering, additional storage options (save DNG to SD card and JPG versions to internal memory), and then not further specified bug fixes (hoped to fix shutter related glitches, too slow continious shooting when not using Live View, CR of the sensor (purple fringing), and more ...).
The Leica M11 firmware update 1.3.0.0 can currently be found here, and I also have firmware releases on my Overgaard Camera Compendium for update at a later time if/when they are not available from the the Leica website.
Firmware 1.5.0.1: August 3, 2022 is a small update athat fixes incorrect JPG tone curves in connection with some lenses caused the contrasts in dark areas to be displayed too strong. Non-coded lenses were displayed incorrectly in the user profiles.
The Leica M11 firmware update 1.5.0.1 can currently be found here, and I also have firmware releases on my Overgaard Camera Compendium for update at a later time if/when they are not available from the the Leica website.
Go to the official Leica Camera AG download center, or if you visit this page at a (much) later time where the downloads are no longer available from Leica, find them at Overgaard Camera Compendium with download links for firmware updates where you will find historic Firware updates Leica M8, Leica M9, Leica M240, Leica M10, Leica M11 and so on.
It is a plan that you can update your Leica M11 from the Leica Fotos App in the future. You connect the Leica M11 with the USB-C/lightening cable taht comes with the camera, and then it should be straight-forward. This will appear in a later release.
The easy way to update firmware can still be used, which is to download the firmware update from the Leica website, put it on the SD card and go through the process on the camera menu of updating with the SD-card inserted into the camera.
EXIF =Exchangeable Image File, a file generated in camera and enclosed in the image file that contains recording information on the image such as shutter speed, exposure compensation, what metering system was used, aperture setting, ISO setting, date and time the image was taken, whitebalance, which lens was used, camera model and serial number. Some images may even store GPS information so you can see where the image were taken. The data from the EXIF file continues to follow any later editions of the image and can be read in photo editing software such as Capture One and Lightroom, as well as Photoshop (go to the menu File > File Info). There is also software available that can read EXIF data from any file, like Exifdata.com.
3) Objects (on a table, for example) in the bottom of our viewing field will appear 100% perspective corrected - to a degree that it is impossible to correct in optics, with or without software correction. A wide angle lens, even with little distortion, will exaggerate the proportions of the closet part so it - to the eye - looks wrong.
After Leaf's DCB, the digital backs evolved into two product lines, the Aptus and the (now discontinued) Valeo. The main difference is that the Aptus models have a 3.5-inch touchscreen, where the Valeos have no on-board display. The Valeos can still be used untethered by using the DP-67 software or the more recent WiView software on a Compaq iPAQ. The iPAQs are connected via Bluetooth with the digital backs. For untethered usage, you will need battery packs for both the Aptus and the Valeo, otherwise the back must be powered via a FireWire connection to a computer. The Valeo models need a Leaf Digital Magazine as well for untethered use, where the Aptus models have a Compact Flash slot.
Capture One is a tethering software, Raw image format converter and workflow software which enables photographers to deliver ready-to-use images with adjusted color and detail. It is designed to create very high image quality and provides a series of tools created to match the professional photographer's daily workflow. Capture One replaced Leaf Capture as tethering and processing software for all Leaf Aptus and Aptus II backs.[5]
Leaf WiView is an update of the DP-67 software. It is an application that enables you to have wireless control (via Bluetooth) over your Leaf imaging module to view and edit images on an HP iPAQ Pocket PC as you shoot.
Still I made my choice to get the AFi-ii 12 as it has the revolving sensor and articulated screen, plus the ability to enter in comments and other data to the back. I haven't worked with the newest sinar software, but at least for me the Phase One Capture one software has been really easy to use and produces very high quality files.
I'd recommend staying with the Hy6/AFi Mod2 but if you wanted an upgrade to your db20p which I also owned at one time, I'd recommend you go for one of the Hasselblad CF backs which operate very much the same but you can find higher pixel count solutions such as the CF-22 or CF-39 or the multishot backs CF-22MS or CF-39MS. These are available second hand and you can buy the adapter plate to fit it to the rollei. I still have a CF-528 back which will do an 88mp file in micro step mode. These are really great backs too.
The scanner ships with a nice set of software on the accompanying CD, with good support of both Mac and PC computing platforms. Both Mac and PC users will find a copy of Adobe's excellent Photoshop LE, along with Canon's FilmGet FS acquire plug-in that operates the scanner. (The scanner is operated from within Photoshop, allowing immediate adjustment or editing of the images as soon as they're acquired.) Arcsoft's PhotoBase image database program is also provided for both platforms. For printing, the two platforms diverge slightly, with Canon's ImageBrowser offered to meet Mac users' printing needs, and Canon's PhotoRecord dedicated photo-printing package provided for Windows users. Of the two, PhotoRecord provides much more flexible printing capabilities, ImageBrowser being mainly intended for use as a photo-organizer tool. Still, it's nice to see support as well-balanced between Mac and PC platforms as it is.
Bit depth is another important parameter for scanners, as a measure of both color accuracy and the maximum density range a scanner can recognize. (8 bits per channel is average 10 better, and12 quite good. A few scanners are now beginning to appear with 14 bits per channel of digitization accuracy.) The CanoScan FS4000 captures a full 14 bits per channel, and furthermore allows you to import the full 42 bit image (14 bits in each of three color channels) into Photoshop.Special FeaturesWe've reviewed several scanners in the past that offer automated dust-removal systems. Some use purely software-based techniques that we've found to be of little benefit: If they remove the dust, they also remove most of the fine subject detail. If they leave the subject detail, they leave the dust too. The most successful methods use infrared light to generate a "defect mask" that then guides sophisticated processing in the scanner's firmware and software. The idea is that the infrared light passes through the film's emulsion layers more or less untouched, but is blocked by dust or scratches. We've found infrared-based methods to be quite effective in removing dust and scratches from your scans. (Note though, that since Kodachrome and black & white emulsions are largely opaque to infrared, these methods don't work with films of those types.) 2ff7e9595c
